Character Analysis
Round Character
A round character has a three dimensional qualities of real people. Round characters have lots of traits and complexities. A character that will change or grow seeming realistic once you get to know the character.
One example of a Round Character is Mabel Pines from the show Gravity Falls. She is has a very outgoing personality and fearless curiosity that comes in handy when Dipper , her brother, needs help solving a mystery. If she was a real person she would be very friendly to anyone she would meet. Mabel is very energetic and full of spirit. I believe Mabel is a Round Character because she changes emotion throughout the show.
I believe the Monkey King from American Born Chinese is a good representation of a Round Character because he changes his emotions from being full of his ego and realizes that he didn't have to be like that meaning he will just be a monkey.
Flat Character
A flat character is only a 2 dimensional has only one or two personality traits. A flat character supports the main character and does not go through major change or growth.
Greg from American Born Chinese is a good representation of a Flat Character because he really didn't have a major role in the story. He only had at least two conversations with Jin the main character. He definitely helped Jin to grow as a character.
One example of a Flat Character is Thompson, also from Gravity Falls. He only showed up in only five episodes. Thompson is a stereotypical teenager that is laid back and friendly. You mostly see him drive around the cast. He works at The Royal Ragtime Theater.
Dynamic Character
A character that undergoes an important inner change, for example a personality or attitude.
Jin has the following characteristics of a dynamic character when he changes from Jin to Danny and them back to Jin. This was a very important change that Jin went through ,the Monkey king had to talk to Jin about Wei-chen and they both went through changes the monkey king changed into cousin Chin-kee.
Simba is a good example of Dynamic character because he illustrates a change from scared cub to finally a fearless king. Simba was fearless when he came back to Pride Rock to take over his kindom that Scar had destroyed.
Static Character
A static character undergoes little or no inner change. A character who does not grow or develop.
The Herbalist Wife from American Born Chinese is a good representation of a Static Character because she undergoes no inner change . She rarely shows up in the book she only made one appearance.
An example of a Static Character is Tyler from Gravity Falls. He does not develop or grow throughout the show Gravity Falls. Tyler also rarely shows up in the show and only has a couple of lines one of them being "Get'em x2"
Protagonist
A protagonist is the main character of literature, theater, cinema. A protagonist is often the hero that the audience is supposed to feel the most sympathy for.
I believe Jin Wang is a good representation of a Protagonist. Jin Wang is a character that is mostly has major role in the book American Born Chinese. He is very shy and he finally made a friend ,Wei-chen, and helped each other throughout the book.
A character from another movie and is a good representation of a Protagonist is Dorothy from Wizard of Oz. Dorothy is the main character in The Wizard of Oz. In the movie she encounters a tornado that is about to tear through her home she is gets hit in the head due to the tornado she is unconscious and dreams about The land of Oz.
Antagonist
An antagonist is a sometimes the villain and is the primary adversary.
Wei-Chen from American Born Chinese is a good representation of a Antagonist because he lied for Jin and now for his rude confrontation with his father the monkey king because he rebelled and lived his life in the mortal world.
The Wicked Witch of the West is a good representation of a Antagonist because she tormented Dorothy in the movie and is the Villain in the movie The Wizard of Oz. She tormented Dorothy because when she arrived to the land of Oz she crushed the Wicked Witch of the East with Dorothy's house.
